Case Study: Fueling the future of Educational Transportation

Challenge

A private, non-profit special education school has an ambitious goal to modernize its fleet of over 200 vehicles to reduce its reliance on natural resources. By strategically converting its fleet of light duty vehicles to electric vehicles, the school is looking to reduce its reliance on natural resources by one third and reduce its carbon footprint in the metro Hartford area.

To accomplish this goal and increase the accessibility of electric vehicles charging for its employees, the school looked to install electric vehicle charging stations across the campus. The challenge, typical for retrofitted projects, was service upgrades that required the locations of the chargers to be altered and deal with slow utility approvals.

Approach and Solution

Titan Energy is a key player in the energy industry which is working with Connecticut utilities on building out electric vehicle infrastructure. Titan Energy also services the customer after the install to confirm they have set up the software and understand how to create and change pricing structures that make sense for their business. We work as a partner from design to implementation.

Through working hand in hand with the utility, a new metered electric service was installed with added capacity to handle the proposed chargers with room for future expansion. From start to finish, Titan Energy led the project efficiently and professionally, acquiring electrical and planning and zoning permits, procured hardware and managed the installation with the customer, excavation crews, and the utility that needed to install a new metered electric service coming off the utility pole. Once the chargers were installed, Titan Energy’s work did not end. Commissioning of the EV chargers concluded with training of the school employees on the networking platform and closing out all documentation needed from the utility for incentive distribution.
