New Bill Supports Solar Energy in Public Schools – But the Time to Act is Now

A groundbreaking new bill to promote solar energy usage in public schools will take effect in 2025. It aims to make the Non-Residential Renewable Energy Solutions (NRES) Program funding process more predictable and financially rewarding for early participants.

Application Process and Pricing Structure
Schools must be proactive! The application window opens in February 2025 and projects will be awarded on a first-ready basis, meaning the sooner you prepare, the better your chances of success. Once the capacity is filled, no additional projects will be accepted until 2026.

The incentive rates for school solar projects will be fixed, meaning no more competitive bidding within the NRES program. Special incentives are available for projects on brownfields, in distressed areas, or that include carport canopy installations.
