Meet Jon Scavone: Director, Sustainability Services

As Titan Energy continues to expand its sustainability and energy solutions offerings, we're excited to welcome Jon Scavone to the team as our Director, Sustainability Services. With more than 15 years of experience helping organizations improve efficiency, reduce costs, and implement innovative energy technologies, Jon brings a wealth of expertise to Titan Energy.

We sat down with Jon to learn more about his background, what drives him professionally, and what he's looking forward to in his new role.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your professional background.
I've been working in the energy efficiency industry for about 15 years. My longest tenure and strongest specialty has been in connected IoT technologies, particularly smart lighting projects deployed across the country. In addition to connected technologies, I've built extensive experience in energy efficiency, EV charging, and solar markets throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. My career has centered on helping organizations leverage emerging technologies to improve operations, reduce costs, and achieve their sustainability goals.

2. You've worked across energy efficiency, lighting, solar, and EV charging. What excites you most about the future of sustainability?
What excites me most is the constant evolution of technology and the opportunities that come with it. Early in my career, LED lighting was the newest innovation, and now it's become standard practice. Today, we're seeing rapid advancements in areas like EV charging infrastructure, solar technologies, energy storage, and smart building systems. Technologies such as solar shingles are creating entirely new possibilities. I enjoy staying ahead of these trends and helping organizations adopt solutions that weren't even imaginable a few years ago.

3. How do sustainability initiatives create value for municipalities, businesses, and organizations beyond environmental benefits?
While the financial and environmental benefits are significant, sustainability projects often deliver much more than cost savings. Many of today's technologies improve automation, provide valuable data insights, and enhance operational efficiency. For municipalities, businesses, and organizations, these innovations can improve service delivery, streamline maintenance, and create smarter, more connected facilities. Sustainability initiatives are increasingly about using technology to work more efficiently and effectively.

4. Throughout your career, you've helped clients secure millions of dollars in incentives and grants. What advice do you give organizations that feel sustainability projects are financially out of reach?
My advice is simple: you'll miss 100% of the opportunities you don't pursue. Many organizations assume projects are unaffordable before exploring available incentives, grants, rebates, and financing options. There are often resources available that can significantly reduce project costs. The first step is asking questions and exploring what's possible.

5. What do you enjoy most about working directly with customers?
The relationship-building aspect is what I enjoy most. Energy efficiency projects can sometimes feel transactional, but I prefer a more consultative approach. I focus on earning trust through honesty, transparency, and straightforward conversations. I don't consider myself a salesperson. I'm someone who provides information and guidance to help customers make the best decisions for their organization.

6. What's one project or accomplishment from your career that you're particularly proud of?
One project that stands out was working with Honeywell during the construction of a new facility in North Carolina. I collaborated closely with architects, engineers, and project stakeholders on a Power over Ethernet lighting system, which uses network cabling rather than traditional electrical wiring to power lighting. It was a highly innovative project, and after more than a year of collaboration and relationship-building, our team successfully secured a $4 million contract. It was rewarding to see such cutting-edge technology implemented on such a large scale.

7. What are you most looking forward to accomplishing at Titan Energy?
Growth. I'm excited about growing both the business and the team. The two go hand in hand. As we continue expanding our sustainability services and helping more customers achieve their goals, we'll create new opportunities for our team members and strengthen the value we deliver to our clients.

8. Outside of work, what are some hobbies or interests you enjoy?
I'm a big family person and enjoy spending time outdoors. I enjoy biking with friends, coaching youth lacrosse, and spending time at my wife's family beach house along the Connecticut shoreline. I also enjoy vegetable gardening and taking on DIY home improvement projects. Recently, I completed kitchen and bathroom renovations at my home, which kept me busy but was incredibly rewarding.

9. What's something people are often surprised to learn about you?
I'm an avid collector of a few admittedly nerdy things; Pokémon cards being one of them. I collected them as a kid, and after my nephew got interested in them, I found myself getting pulled back into the hobby. It's become a fun way for us to connect and share something we both enjoy.

10. If you weren't working in the energy industry, what career path do you think you might have pursued?
I have a side business focused on photography, so if I weren't working in energy, I would likely be involved in advertising, marketing, or photography.

11. What message would you like to share with Titan Energy's customers and partners as you begin this new chapter?
I'm excited to join Team Titan Energy and work alongside our customers and partners to identify new opportunities for efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. The energy landscape is evolving quickly, and I look forward to helping organizations navigate those changes, maximize available resources, and implement solutions that create long-term value.

Thank you, Jon, for taking the time to share your story. We're excited to have you on board and look forward to the impact you'll make for our customers, partners, and Team Titan Energy.
