Challenge

Administrators at University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut were looking to replace broken lighting fixtures and also cut energy costs. The old, broken lights in the lecture and lab classrooms were safety hazards. The campus chapel and performance theater required specialized engineered solutions and equipment in order to address campus maintenance concerns.

Through a campus audit of more than 1,000 fixtures, Titan Energy was able to find lighting solutions that served in many types of learning environments. Solutions included fixtures with long life expectancy in lecture halls and lab classrooms, dimmable lighting fixtures throughout the campus chapel, and interconnected lighting controls in the university performance theater. Capturing incentives for a heating and cooling project that was already in play, Titan Energy uncovered available utility incentives which were applied to the total cost along with the Energy Opportunity (EO) incentives for lighting and controls. The total incentive of $66,661 reduced the cost of the campus-wide project by 26%, offered annual energy savings, addressed aesthetic and maintenance requests, and resulted in a higher return on investment.
