A small town in Connecticut committed to making a significant environmental and budget impact by supporting sustainable transportation and reducing its overall carbon footprint. As part of this initiative, the town set an ambitious goal to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at key locations, including Town Hall, the Senior Center, the Community School, the Library, the Town Garage, and the Town Beach. These locations were strategically chosen to ensure accessibility for residents and visitors while encouraging broader adoption of EVs, as well as plan for the future potential of EV fleet vehicles for the town.

However, as with many retrofitted projects, the town faced challenges such as upgrading electrical infrastructure to support the new charging stations, determining the best installation sites to maximize usability, and overcoming delays caused by utility approval processes.

Approach and Solution

To help the town provide convenient EV charging options for residents and visitors, Titan Energy delivered a comprehensive solution tailored to the town’s needs. The process began with a site assessment to identify the best locations for chargers, ensuring accessibility, and encouraging widespread use. Titan Energy worked closely with the local utility to manage the necessary electrical upgrades, ensuring sufficient capacity for the chargers while allowing for future scalability.

Titan Energy handled key aspects of the project, including the installation of EV charger hardware, project management for utility incentive programs, and support for the DEEP Grant application process. In addition, Titan Energy set up and provided ongoing support for the EV charger software, ensuring the system operated smoothly for the town and its users.

The town contributed to the project by performing its own trenching and civil work. This collaborative effort allowed the project to move forward without requiring any upfront capital investment from the town, making it a cost-effective solution.
